Shirley Hall Obituary

Shirley Darlene (Gregg) Hall, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at home.    

Shirley was born on August 14, 1939, in Moccasin Township, the daughter of Lester Edward and Eileen Blanche (Miller) Gregg.  She was a 1957 graduate of Beecher City High School.  Shirley married the love of her life, David Hall, on July 10, 1959, in the Free Methodist Church in Taylorville, and they were blessed with 62 years of marriage.   She continued her education at Sparks Business College, Lake Land Community College and Eastern Illinois University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, Special Education and Adult Education.  Shirley worked as a resource and substitute teacher in the Cowden-Herrick School District, assisted with the GED classes in Cowden and worked at FS for several years.  She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Cowden, was a passionate lifelong member of 4-H, Shelby County 4-H and Junior Fair board member, 40-year member of the DAR Effingham Chapter, served as the State Treasurer for Home and Community Education and was a member of the TOPS Club in Altamont.  Shirley was a very active member of the Cowden community and her dedication to the community will be dearly missed.    

She is survived by her husband, David Hall of Louisville; daughters: Julia “Julie” (Gary) Stewart of Duarte, CA and Crystal (Jim) Ping of Marshall; son, Phillip (Pam) Hall of Louisville; grandchildren:  Andria (Colby Bradford) Richards of Farina, Leslie (Nicholas) Guinto of Champaign, J.D. Ping of Charleston and Krista Hall of Altamont; great-grandchildren:  Drake and Draven Richards, both of Cowden and Karson and Noah Guinto, both of Champaign;  step-grandchildren:  Jeromie Stewart of CA, Alex (Brittany) Shadwell of MO, Gena (Josh) Enlow of IL and Hanna Shadwell of IN; niece, Cindy (Clint) Hovde of Eden Prairie, MN; nephews:  Darrin Gregg of Clarksville, TN, Eric Clark of Taylorville, Greg (Anita) Clark and Jeff Clark, all of Morrisonville; cousins:  Cheryl Miller Reed, Janey Miller Summers and Bruce Miller, all of Beecher City. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Duane Gregg; sisters-in-law:  Mary Jeanette “Jean” Clark and Wanda Gregg. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021, in the First Christian Church in Cowden.  Funeral services will be at 10:39 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021, in the church with Reverend Darrell Hinkle officiating.  Burial will take place in Bob Doane Cemetery in rural Beecher City.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.
