Scott Allen Chalfant, 62, of Cowden, IL, departed this life much too soon after a valiant, seven-year, battle with kidney cancer on Sunday, October 3, 2021, with his loved ones by his side.
Scott was born on August 30, 1959, in Macomb, the son of Marvin Louis and Norma Jean (Tedrick) Chalfant. He was a 1977 graduate of Rushville High School and continued his education at Greenville University earning his Bachelor of Arts. He married the love of his life, Jamie French, on August 7, 1982, in Lakewood, CO and they were blessed with 39 years of marriage. Scott was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Army National Guard with the 144th Army Band for 22 years retiring in 2008. He worked for C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation Housing Department in Effingham for 23 years retiring in 2011. Scott had a love for music and played with many local groups, Sounds of Swing, Kaskaskia College Orchestra and St. John’s Brass in Effingham. His talent also extended to intarsia woodworking. His artistic creations were often on display at many local art shows.
Scott will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Jamie Chalfant of Cowden; daughters: Sonja Chalfant of Lakewood, CO and Adrianne Chalfant of Wheat Ridge, CO; son, Benjamin (Juliana) Chalfant of Beecher City; four grandchildren: Evelyn, Violet, JJ and Greyson; brother, Kevin (Sherry) Chalfant of New Castle, IN and nephew, Kris Krohe of Taylorville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dawn Marie Krohe and his in-laws.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021, in the Cowden Free Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Neville officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials may be made in Scott’s name to Harmony Outreach, P.O. Box 1687, Mount Juliet, TN 37121-1687. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.
