Nancy (Strohl) Koontz

Nancy Koontz, 74, of Mode, IL, passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 in Willowbrook Memory Support Residence in Effingham, IL.  

Nancy was born on November 24, 1945 to Mildred and Paul Strohl of Stewardson.  She married Howard Koontz on April 13, 1963 in Stewardson.  In her younger years, Nancy worked at General Electric in Mattoon.  She later worked 28 years at International Paper in Shelbyville until her retirement in 2011.  She enjoyed crafting, watching Illinois basketball and St. Louis Cardinals games and spending time with her grandchildren.  

Nancy is survived by her son, Todd (Inga) Koontz of Adams, TN; daughters:  Amy (Doug) Baker of Carbondale and Cathy Koontz (Brad Montgomery) of Strasburg; sisters:  Marge Rieman of Effingham and Linda (Floyd) Rentfrow of Gordonsville, TN; grandchildren:  Cody Koontz, Mica (Donovan) Cadena, Hannah and Samuel Baker; great-granddaughter, Adalyn Cadena. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; daughter, Wendy; grandson, Ethan; sister, Bonnie; brothers:  Gary, Junior, Donnie and Steve and several brothers and sisters-in-law. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson with Reverend David Ducommon officiating.  Burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery.  Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson.  Memorials may be made in Nancy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and mailed to Brummerstedt Funeral Home, %Nancy Koontz, 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.
