Mary M. (Sutton) Gaston

Mary M. Gaston, 77, of Lakewood, IL, passed away at 2:47 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.

Mary was born on April 10, 1944, in Belleview, the daughter of William and Minnie (Barnes) Sutton.  She was a graduate of Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville.  Mary and David L. Gaston were married on June 15, 1963, in Grafton, and were blessed with 56 years of marriage and three beautiful daughters:  Michele, Kimberly and Nadine.  Mary happily dedicated her life to caring for her husband, raising their three daughters and spoiling her grandchildren.  When not tending to the family, she could often be found enjoying a good book or sewing.  She loved her family unconditionally and will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary is survived by two daughters who felt her love and dedication, Kimberly (Lyndell) Brewer and Nadine Schnell, both of Lakewood; son-in-law, Michael Whitlatch of Lakewood; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother; five sisters and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David L. Gaston who passed in March 2020; daughter, Michele Whitlatch who passed in March 2021; two great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating.  Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home is assisting the family.
