Marjorie Wasson Obituary

Marjorie Mae Wasson, 91, of Cowden, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Zion, Illinois, a cherished matriarch and beacon of light to all who knew her, departed this life on March 16, 2024.  Born on June 30, 1932, in the quaint town of Owaneco, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Fannie (Henderson) Robertson.

Marjorie's heart found its match when she united in marriage with Robert E. Wasson on November 13, 1948. Their union was blessed with warmth and devotion until Robert's passing on August 30, 2002. Together, they laid a strong foundation for their family, centered on love, respect, and the importance of togetherness.

She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Carla Jean Wasson of Sandoval, and Zelma Evelyn Wasson Walker of Cowden. Marjorie's legacy continues through her three grandchildren, Scott Danaha of Odin, Brian Danaha of Springfield, and Sam Walker of Patoka, each of whom she adored with all her heart. Her four great-grandchildren, Rylee Lorton, Rhyatt Walker, Kendalyn Walker, and Adelline Walker brought immense joy and laughter to her later years. A host of nieces and nephews also survive her, each carrying a piece of her spirit and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Michelle Walker Lorton and seven siblings.

Marjorie's life was one of quiet dedication and unwavering commitment to her family. As a homemaker, she was the heart and soul of her household, creating a warm and nurturing environment where all felt welcome. Her gentle guidance and unconditional love shaped the lives of her children and grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

Her passion for history, particularly the Civil War era, was a wellspring of knowledge and stories that she shared with enthusiasm. Marjorie's love for reading transported her to different times and places, allowing her to share in the experiences of those who came before us. This love was something she instilled in her family, fostering a sense of curiosity and a desire to learn.

The time Marjorie spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, was her most treasured possession. Whether it was sharing a meal, recounting tales from the past, or celebrating life's milestones, these moments were the ones she cherished most.
