Marcella May (Green) Brummerstedt

Marcella May Brummerstedt, 98, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, formerly of Decatur, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in Commonwealth Senior Living in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. 

Marcella was born on May 21, 1924, in Wheeler, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence and Lela (Foltz) Green.  She was a 1942 graduate of Newton Community High School.  Marcella and James Woodrow Brummerstedt were married on Christmas Day, in 1945, in Stewardson, Illinois.  It was their deep love for one another that help them preserve through the good times and bad and celebrate over 50 years of marriage before his passing on October 17, 1996.  She received Jesus as her Savior at age 22 while attending a small tent revival.  That act was the “glue” that held their marriage together.  Marcella worked at Bear Hybrid Seeds and Taylor Pharmaceuticals, both in Decatur, Illinois, but first and foremost, she was a wife and mother to her husband and two sons.  Marcella kept a warm and welcoming home and was happiest when it was filled with family and friends enjoying one another’s company and Marcella’s down-home cooking.

She leaves behind her two sons:  Dan Brummerstedt of Kingston, Tennessee and Michael (Susan) Brummerstedt of Knoxville, Tennessee; six grandchildren:  Michael Brummerstedt of Decatur, Illinois, Melissa (Eric) Rogers of Kingston, Tennessee, Joshua (Lori) Brummerstedt of Knoxville, Tennessee, Steven (Jyoti) Brummerstedt of Knoxville, Tennessee, Mark (Piper) Brummerstedt of Lemoore, California and Craig Brummerstedt of Knoxville, Tennessee and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Judy; sister, Georgianna, and brother, James.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Commonwealth Senior Living in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.  The kindness and love they showed to “Miss Marcella” will long be remembered.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson, Illinois.  Burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery.   Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson, Illinois is assisting the family.
