Larry Bradford Obituary

Larry R. Bradford, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and mentor, passed away peacefully at his home in Findlay, Illinois, on April 22, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on June 12, 1943, in Colfax, Illinois, Larry was the beloved son of Bert and Irma (Scranton) Bradford. He shared his life's journey with his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Pam Sticklen Bradford, who survives him, alongside a family that was the center of his world.

Larry's legacy is carried on by his two devoted sons, Tyler (Amanda) Bradford of Byron and Colby (Andria) Bradford of Shelbyville, and his adored nine grandchildren, Jacob, Adam, Alivia, Eva, Alaina, Hannah, Hayden, Drake, and Draven. The joy of his life was further multiplied by two great-grandchildren, Alba and Ellis. His brother, Roy Bradford of Knoxville, Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews also survive him, each holding dear the memories they created with Larry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandson, Carter.

Education was the cornerstone of Larry's professional life. His commitment to learning and development was evident through his roles as an assistant superintendent, principal, athletic director, and teacher. Larry's influence reached far beyond the classroom, as he coached boys and girls in various sports and supported school and church music programs. His passion for education and his dedication to his students and colleagues will be remembered as a testament to his character and his belief in the power of knowledge.

In addition to his educational career, Larry was a pillar of the Findlay United Methodist Church community. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he served his church with the same dedication and care that he applied to every endeavor. He was attentive to the needs of the church and its congregation, always willing to lend a hand or offer a kind word to those in need.

Larry's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid golfer, he found joy in the challenge and camaraderie of the game. His talent for woodworking and bowling were sources of personal satisfaction and shared moments with friends and family. Larry's love of the water led him to spend 50 years boating on Lake Shelbyville, cherishing every moment spent on his beloved boat. A true fan of college basketball and football, he reveled in the excitement and spirit of the games.

Music held a special place in Larry's heart. He enjoyed singing and playing guitar, talents he showcased early in life as a member of the band Shy Guys and throughout his service at church. His music brought joy to those around him and served as another avenue through which he connected with others.

A celebration of life service to honor Larry will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Okaw Valley Middle School Gym, affectionately known as the "Findlay School Gym." A private family burial will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Larry’s honor to the Findlay United Methodist Church or made directly to the family “Pam Bradford.”  Donations made to the family will be combined and given to help local educational opportunities.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.

Larry's life was marked by his love for his family, his dedication to education, and his service to his community. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family would like to thank Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice for their care and our friends and family for their immeasurable love and support during this time.
