George Devore, 79, of Beecher City, Illinois, a beloved father, grandfather, mentor, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023, in the Arthur Home in Arthur, Illinois. He was born on February 4, 1944, in Beecher City, Illinois, the son of Charles and Margaret (Syfert) Devore. George married Lynda Hopper on January 9, 1965, in Beecher City and they celebrated 49 years of marriage before her passing on September 8, 2014.
George's life was characterized by hard work and dedication. As a master mechanic and lifelong farmer, he was a testament to the values of diligence and commitment. His work, however, did not solely define him. George was also a man who loved to fish, a hobby that brought him much peace and enjoyment. But above all, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. His family will remember him as a source of wisdom, strength, and unconditional love. In his later years, George's roles as a mentor and friend became increasingly significant. He had a natural ability to guide and support others, always offering a listening ear and thoughtful advice. His impact extended beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of many in his community.
George was the cherished father of Tim Devore of Chicago, Stephani Poe of Arthur, and Jeff Devore of Louisville, KY. He took great pride and joy in his family, which extended to his grandchildren, Casey Poe of Cullom, Teddy Poe of Sullivan, and great-grandson, Braydon Poe of Windsor. He also leaves behind his brothers, Robert Devore, and Raymond Devore, both of Beecher City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Lynda and granddaughter Heather Poe.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City. In lieu of flowers memorials in George’s honor may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City is assisting the family.
George's legacy will live on in the love and memories he leaves behind. His family and friends will remember him as a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity. His spirit will forever be a part of the lives of those he held dear.
