Frances M. (Bateman) Lorton

Frances M. Lorton, 88, of Cowden, IL passed away at 9:20 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 in the comfort of her home with loved ones by her side. 

Frances was born on December 8, 1932, in Santa Rosa, Texas, the daughter of Jessie and Bessie (Dickey) Bateman.  She received her Master’s in Education from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.  Frances and Otis Lloyd Lorton were united in holy matrimony on January 1, 1965, in Pana, and celebrated 43 years of marriage before his passing on September 11, 2008.  Frances taught elementary school for ten years before stepping away to raise her children.  She was a member of the Church of Christ in Cowden.  Frances enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and spending time with her loved ones.  She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who loved her.  

Surviving are her son, James (Kim) Lorton of Cowden; daughters:  Linda (Tim) Hattemer of Cantrall and Sally (Chad) Ruot of Tower Hill; five grandchildren:  Sue Ann (Ben) Odom of Henderson, TN, Daniel Hattemer of Searcy, AR, Kamila Lorton of Cowden, Carson Lorton of Cowden and Heather Ruot of Tower Hill; two brothers and three sisters, all of Arkansas. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and one sister. 

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2021 in Lorton Cemetery with Brother Raymond Stimer officiating.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.
