Donald R. Miller

Donald R. Miller, 83, of Effingham, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, in Stonebridge Memory Care in Effingham surrounded by the love of his family. 

Don was born on December 30, 1939, in Shumway, the son of Eldon M. and Geneva R. (Brandt) Miller. He married Betty Bates on October 21, 1961.   Don was a dedicated employee of Effingham Asphalt where he drove truck for 47 years. He enjoyed working in his yard, fishing and had a love of gardening, especially his tomatoes.   Don was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Effingham.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many.  His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Don is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty of Effingham; daughters:  Kelle (Leland) Waldorf of Shumway and Micah (Eric) Kusterman of Casey; two grandchildren:  Dustin Westjohn of Shumway and Danielle (Jarod) Carlen of Toledo; three great-grandchildren:  Elijah and Landyn Carlen of Toledo and Austyn Westjohn of Shumway; brother, James (Mary) Miller of Stewardson and his beloved nieces and nephews.  Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Joy Ann Garrison.    

In keeping with Don’s wishes no services will be held.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.
