Deborah "Debbie" S. Toppins

Deborah “Debbie” Toppins, 63, of Effingham, IL passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  

Debbie was born on November 9, 1957, in Newton, KS, one of 19 children to George and Flora (Shafer) Toppins.  Debbie was born with Turner Syndrome and polio and through this she taught us that we can see past the difficulties and find the beauty, for there is always beauty.  She gave us the gift of unconditional love and taught us how to be happy because she took joy in the simple things in life-joy in seeing family, attending church at The Journey, volunteering her time at church with various activities, watching professional wrestling, jeep rides and visiting the Amish and various other covered bridges. 

Debbie will lovingly be remembered by her brothers:  Bobby (Jean) Toppins and Rodney Toppins, all of St. Louis, MO; sisters:  Carolyn Keene of Miami, OK, Connie (Kenneth) Eclestein of MO, Brenda Hale of Miami, OK, Georgia Toppins of Newton, Linda (Carl) Underwood of Beecher City, Diane Adams of St. Louis, MO, Tina Crumpton of St. Louis, MO and Christina Toppins of St. Louis, MO and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all who loved her dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

A celebration of life gathering will be held for family and friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 followed by a celebration of life service at 3:00 p.m. at The Journey, 2818, 51 Village Square Mall, Effingham, IL 62401.  Memorials may be made in Debbie’s honor to the donor’s favorite charity and mailed to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 302 W. Main Street, Shelbyville, IL 62565.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home is assisting the family.
