Clara M. (Hodge) Barkoozis

Clara M. Barkoozis, 90, of Cowden, IL passed away at 10:23 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, in the Shelbyville Manor in Shelbyville, IL. 

Clara was born on May 18, 1931, in South Haven, MI, the daughter of Walter and Mabel (Brown) Hodge.  Clara and Charles Gregory Barkoozis were united in holy matrimony on January 27, 1951, in Chicago, and were blessed with 51 years of marriage before his passing on March 12, 2003.  Clara was gentle, kind, honest, faithful and humble in all that she did.  She was a loving and attentive wife, a deeply devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a caring and loyal daughter, sister, aunt and friend.  The world was a better place with her in it and she will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning and volunteering for the school.  She was a member of the Greenland Baptist Church in rural Beecher City.    

Surviving are her children:  Gregory (Cathy) Barkoozis of Downers Grove, Karen (Pete) Vozas of Elgin, James Barkoozis of South Haven, MI, Diane (Bill) Welchbrodt of Melrose Park and Christine (Roy) Miller of Cowden; son-in-law, Kenneth Fuhrman of Jacksonville, AK; 21 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and Mabel Hodge; husband, Charles Barkoozis; daughter, Antoinette “Toni” Marie Fuhrman; granddaughter, Sarah Miller; brothers:  John and Bill and sisters:  Ruth and Irene.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 0 Grand Avenue, Cowden, IL 62422.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will take place in Mound Cemetery in rural Cowden.  Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.
