Obituary
Bessie A. Potter, 77, of St. Elmo, Illinois, a cherished mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away surrounded by the love of family on Friday, September 15, 2023.
Bessie was born on January 12, 1946, in Decatur, the daughter of Sereno and Leona “Violet” (Rentfro) Tipsword. In 1961, Bessie married the love of her life, Joe D. Potter, and they were blessed with 27 years of marriage before his early passing on November 23, 1988.
Surviving are her daughters, Sandy Jo Potter of St. Elmo, and Barbara (Kirk) Arnold of Valley Park, Missouri; four grandchildren, Blake Potter, Sebastian Potter, Sophia Warren, and J.D. Arnold; sisters, Linda Canada of Beecher City and Lavesta Rickfelder of Effingham.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband; sisters, Patricia Thompson, Diane Gordon, Elner Russell, Lucy "Frances" Gillespie and Leona May McMillan, and her brothers, Samuel and Jerry Tipsword.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City with Pastor Jim Quick officiating. Inurnment will follow in Tipsword Cemetery in rural Beecher City. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City is assisting the family.
