Shirley M. Evans, 84, of Cowden, IL passed away at 1:18 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the Shelbyville Manor in Shelbyville, IL after a lengthy illness.
Shirley was born on May 21, 1935, in Pana, the daughter of Wayne and Rosie Hicks. She and Charles R. Evans were married on March 31, 1956 in Pana. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2014. Shirley and Charles enjoyed going to country music shows and talking on the CB radio. They belonged to the All Nighter's CB Club in Herrick. They enjoyed going to CB jamborees where they were known as Blonde Bomber and Country Charlie. They won several awards for their unique outfits. Shirley was famous for her elephant ears which she sold at the local fairs and festivals for 29 years. She never met a stranger and she adored her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly.
Shirley is survived by her children: Charles Warren (Rhonda) Evans of Cowden; Debbie Herbord of Pana, Connie Miller of Pana and Robert (Sheli) Evans of Cowden; grandchildren: Joshua (Amber) Evans, Christopher (Melissa) Evans, Joya Evans, Blake Evans, Tiffany Miller, Amanda Evans and Colton Evans and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Rosie Hicks; husband, Charles; infant granddaughter Stephanie and her siblings: Warren Hicks, Nellie Zahradka, Bernice Coleman, Helen Sarver and Mary Lou Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating. Burial will take place in Mound Cemetery in rural Cowden. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shirley's name to the Cowden Fire Department/First Responders. Family requests casual attire.
