Sandra D. Giles, 76, of Beecher City, IL passed away at 4:31 PM on Monday, January 27, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Beecher City Church of Christ with Pastor Sid Hutchison officiating. Burial will take place in Hubbartt Cemetery in rural Beecher City. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Beecher City Church of Christ. Memorials may be made in Sandy's name to the American Cancer Society. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City is assisting the family.
Sandy was born on February 4, 1943, in Cowden, the daughter of Paul and Jessie (Randall) McElroy. She married Dean Giles on June 11, 1960 and together they were blessed with five children: Deana, Diana, Darla, Doug and Darin. She dedicated her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When not tending to the family, she was working at Shelby Memorial Hospital where she worked for 21 years before retiring in 2009.
She leaves behind her husband of 59 years, Dean Giles of Beecher City; daughters: Deana (Mike) Dunaway of Cowden, Diana (Steve) Banning of Cowden and Darla (Mike) Hankins of Shumway; sons: Doug (Bridgot) Giles of Teutopolis and Darin (Nicole) Giles of Beecher City; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Butch McElroy of Cowden; in-laws: John (Pat) Giles of Beecher City, Janet (Charlie) Siebert of Altamont, Nancy Switzer of Cowden, Joyce McElroy of Beecher City, Joanne McElroy of Cowden, Bobbi Switzer of Tulsa, OK and Theresa Settle of Virden and special nephew, Terry Allen (Vicki) McElroy of Beecher City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jessie McElroy; in-laws, Charley and Waneta Giles; grandson, Wyatt Scott Giles; brothers: Keith Switzer, Marty Switzer, Donnie McElroy and Terry McElroy.
