Ruby Dunaway Obituary

Ruby D. Dunaway, 88, of Cowden, passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham with her loved ones by her side.

Due to the rising number of COVID cases in the area, the family of Ruby Dunaway regretfully announces the cancellation of the Celebration of Life service for Ruby on August 9, 2020 at the Cowden Free Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Cowden Free Methodist Church or the donor's favorite charity. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.

Ruby was born on August 10, 1931, in Shelby County, the daughter of Everett and Gertrude (Doran) Allsop. She and Ivan McBride were united in holy matrimony and he preceded her in death in September 1990. Ruby married Donald Dunaway on December 25, 1993. She was a member of the Cowden Free Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ruby was a homemaker who enjoyed the outdoors and making her strawberry jam. She was as well known for her strawberry jam as she was for checking in on her family and friends. Ruby touched many lives and was loved by all who knew her.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Dunaway of Cowden; children: Judy Halliwell of Pittsburgh, PA, Ben (Elena) McBride of Danville, Tim (Debbie) Dunaway of Cowden, Tina (JR) Richards of Cowden, Teri (Steve) Miller of Shelbyville, Tammie (Tim) Massengill of Neoga, Jane (Harold) Boehm of Cowden and Joan (Neil) Estes of Energy; 21 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; sisters: Helen (Don) Spicer of Chino Valley, AZ and Delores Jones of Smithville, TN and many nieces and nephews, all who loved her dearly.

Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Ivan and seven brothers.

Friends and family are invited to light a candle or share a story in Ruby's honor at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com.
