Mary Sokolis Obituary

Mary I. Sokolis, 98, of Beecher City, formerly of Springfield, passed away peacefully at 9:50 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, Illinois.

Mary was born in Springfield, Illinois on October 30, 1920, the daughter of John and Cora Mae Moats. She was blessed with six brothers and sisters: Harry, Ray, Willard, Bill, Cora Moore and Betty Menichetti. Mary and Albert Sokolis were united in marriage on February 22, 1941 in Reno, Nevada and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2000.

Mary took great pleasure in interacting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to sing and dance with family and friends and was a regular participant in area opry groups. She spent many years helping with her husband's real estate business and in retail sales.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen (Lee) Delhaute of Beecher City; two grandchildren: Scott Delhaute of Seabeck, WA and Michelle (Marshall) McGowan of Beecher City; nine great-grandchildren: Nick (Melina) McGowan, Josh McGowan, Christian (Nate) Jerome, Daniel McGowan, Trevor McGowan, Victoria McGowan, Aliza McGowan, Annaliese McGowan and Judah McGowan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.

Private family services will be held. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City is assisting the family.
