Coralie (Wetherell) Guthrie

Coralie Evelyn (Wetherell) Guthrie, 92, of Springfield, IL went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2020 at Concordia Village in Springfield, IL with family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL with Pastor Mary Zupansic officiating. Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or the donor's choice. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL is assisting the family.

Coralie was born February 9, 1928 at home in Shumway, IL, to Seth and Alma (Laue) Wetherell. She was raised on the family farm and in the loving church family of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shumway, IL. After graduating from Beecher City High School, Coralie earned her BS in Education from Eastern Illinois University, and her MS in Education at Peabody College, Nashville TN. She also attended summer school in Boulder, CO. Coralie taught first grade in Shelbyville, IL and Springfield, IL for 22 years before becoming a full-time homemaker and volunteer.

She met the love of her life, Owen Guthrie, when she roomed with his sister, Lois in college. They reconnected five years later in Springfield, IL and were married in 1967. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2019.

Her many hobbies included serving others through quilting for Lutheran World Relief and crocheting hats for preemies in the NICU.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth (Roger) Swanson of Monona, IA; brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Becker of Terre Haute, IN; 19 Wetherell nieces and nephews; two Guthrie nieces and nephews; 34 great nieces and nephews; 50 great-great nieces and nephews and five step-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Elwyn (Eileen) Wetherell and Delano "Bud" (Viola) Wetherell; sisters: Jean (John) Lynch, Thelma (Bill) Sasse, Nora (Roy) Ruud and Joan (Gene) Beatty; sister-in-law, Lois Guthrie Becker and special friend, Linda Shudrowitz.
