Edward Albert Emil Wittenberg 94 of Windsor, IL, passed away at 7:40 AM Wednesday July 9, 2008 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County.
Mr. Wittenberg was born Sept. 1, 1913 at Stewardson, IL the son of Henry Lewis and Carolina Koester Wittenberg.
He married Martha Winnogean Cohea Nov. 9, 1941 in Stewardson, IL and she passed away Sept. 18, 2000.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson where he had served as Elder, Deacon, Trustee and Superintendent of Sunday School.
He was a member of the Windsor American Legion Post, Shelby County Farm Bureau and was a former member of the Shelby Memorial Hospital Board of Directors.
Mr. Wittenberg was a life long grain and livestock farmer, and for many years was a member of the Windsor Harvest Picnic Committee.
He served in the United States Army during WWII in Italy, France and North Africa.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.
Surviving are daughters Connie Rieken and friend Bruce Busboom of Paxton, IL and Jean Ann Dunn of Windsor; son Danny Wittenberg and wife Marsha of Gays; grandchildren: Edward Dunn and wife Tonya, Laura Roessler and husband John, Catherine Morgan, Karyn Dunn and Colin Van Hagey; seven great grandchildren; sister Mildred Caponigro of Chicago, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son JamesEdward Wittenberg, a grandchild in infancy, sisters Minnie Kessler and Lydia Kessler; brother Melvin Wittenberg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday July 12, 2008 in Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson.Pastor Richard Bremer will officiate.Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday in Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor and from 9:30 AM until service time on Saturday at the Church.Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson. Military rites will be performed by the Windsor American Legion Post. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, Peace Meals of Charleston, IL and Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson.
