 Edith Eileen Wheeler, 79, of Findlay passed away Friday, December 4, 2009, at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon.

Eileen was born on February 9, 1930, to Martsie Stevens and Edith (Spicer) Stevens in rural Findlay, Illinois. Surviving are: her husband, Bill Wheeler; her son, Bill Wheeler of Springfield (wife Mary, daughter Flannery); and her daughter, Ellen Humphrey of Mattoon (son Seth and daughter Bremen Eileen); her sister, Doris Olson of Windsor; a special daughter, Janon Park; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Juanita Graven and her brother Earl Stevens.

Eileen attended Mahoney School in rural Findlay, Findlay High School as a freshman, and graduated from Windsor High School in 1947.She worked as a school cook in Findlay, and worked at the Douglas Nursing Home, Kroger’s, and J.C. Penney in Mattoon. She was a member of the Findlay United Methodist Church and a member of its Bag Ladies Group; a member of the D.A.R.; and a member of the “Party Party” Club. She authored many articles on antiques and collectibles which were published in the Tri-State Trader (now Antique Week) and other antiques magazines.She taught herself to paint and painted many landscape pictures and rural scenes.She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She did extensive research on the family history and was in communication with many others engaged in genealogy.She was a lifetime writer of letters to friends and family. Eileen will be sorely missed and always remembered by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Findlay. The Rev Thomas J Compton, will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at the Findlay Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Findlay Methodist Church, Sleeping Bag Ladies.
