John Paige Welton, 66, of Shelbyville passed away at 7:30 a.m. Monday (July 14, 2008) at his residence.
A gathering of the family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Quad County Hospice.
Mr. Welton was born November 10, 1941 in Shelbyville the son of John Harold and Thelma Ethel Eckel Welton.
He was a member of Eagles #4395 of Shelbyville, member of the Labor Local #159 for 39 years, and a member of the Operating Engineer Local #965 for 7 years.
He married Connie Reed (Morrison) September 26, 1987 in Lakewood, IL.
Surviving is his wife, Connie; children, Sherry Taylor (Mike) of Valparaiso, IN, Esther Nohren( Mark) of Lakewood, IL, Harold Leroy (Lorrie) , Correana Armstrong, (friend Rusty Spivey), Melissa Parks ( Terry) all of Shelbyville; sister, Retta Elaine Parks of Shelbyville; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, several nephews, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and three brothers, Oscar Eugene, Lawson Lee and Harold Leroy.
He loved to make and build things, a jack of all trades, would help anyone.He loved the challenge of operating a crane, nicknamed Smooth.
