Edna Gail ( Baumgarten) Underwood 88 of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Stewardson, IL, passed away at 11:30 PM Thursday July 3, 2008 in Douglas Rehabilitation and Care Center in Mattoon.
Edna was born April 10, 1920 in Prairie Twp., Shelby Co., IL the daughter of Louis and Florence Laver Baumgarten.
She married Marvin Leroy Underwood Oct. 22, 1938 in Charleston, MS and he passed away May 30, 2006.
Edna was employed in the office of the Supervisor of Assessments Office of Shelby County for several years and formerly was a secretary at Stewardson-Strasburg High School.
Surviving are a daughter Beverly Dallas and husband Don of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren;three great great grandchildren; a sister Grace Bolt of Springville, TN; nephew David Baumgarten of Stewardson; niece Donna Wofford and husband Harry of Springville, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Elmer Baumgarten and Otis Baumgarten; nieces Louella Matthews and Lavonne Bolt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday July 7, 2008 in the Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson.Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of the service on Monday.Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery.Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church of Stewardson.
