James F.Thompson, 87, of Windsor died at 4:30 a.m. Monday (June 30, 2008) at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor with Pastor Cathy Minor officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lincolnland Hospice.
He was born February 1, 1921 in Richland Co., IL the son of Benjamin H. and Elsie Bales Thompson.
He married Helen McDonald, August 13, 1941, together have five children; Joyce French (Joe) of Mattoon, Jim Thompson (Connie) of Charleston, Carole Burke (Mike) of Mattoon, Gary Thompson (Vickie) of Windsor and Jerry Thompson (Marla Brown) of Windsor. He then married Wynona Gray, February 4, 1974 and she preceded him in death, June 27, 1995. Surviving are her children, Peggy Cox (David) of Tulsa, OK and Bert Shott (Jeff) of Copperas, TX. He then married Jo Houston March 19, 1996 and she survives along with her children, Ken Hartman of Williston, ND, Janice Horne (Kevin) of Charlotte, NC, Le Finn of Jacksonville, Jeff Schott (Bert) of Copperas, TX and Jeana Feltner of Altamont.
Also surviving are brother, Mike Thompson (Juanita) of Windsor; sisters, Elsie Ornsborn (Ab) of Neoga, Daisy Hanna of Texas and Lois Ogle (Mac) of Shumway; 25 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson, numerous nieces and nephews and his Poodle buddy, Missy.
He was a lifelong farmer in the Windsor area. He collected antique tools and International Tractors and loved to go to auctions and flea markets. He traveled to Indiana for watermelons and cantaloupes every year to sell in the Windsor area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wynona, nine brothers, two sisters and two great-grandchildren.
