Gilbert B. Taylor, 81, of Shelbyville passed away at 8:09 a.m. Tuesday (October 21, 2008) in the Shelbyville Manor.
Gilbert was born Jan. 31, 1927 the son of Charles and Ione Felkel Taylor.
He married Barbara Armstrong Oct. 10, 1953 in Corinth, MS.
Gilbert worked as a machinist at Oliver Corp. in Shelbyville and later at Norfolk & Southern Railroad.He was a member of VFW Post 4829 of Shelbyville.He loved to repair old cars and engines and was an avid bowler.He served in the United States Army during WWII.
Surviving are his wife Barbara; children: Connie Roesch and husband Bill of Loami, IL, Mary Jane James and husband Ernie of Pana, IL, Janice Koss and husband Roger of St. Joseph, IL, Ronnie Taylor, Gary Taylor and Brad Taylor all of Shelbyville; fourteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brothers John Taylor and wife Barbara of Shelbyville and Joe Taylor of Decatur, IL; sister Patsy Donaker of Findlay, IL
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday Oct. 24, 2008 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Lowell Goleman will officiate.Visitation will be from 11:00 AM Friday until service time.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Flag presentation will be made by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the Family.
