Evelyn I. Stevens, 72, of Shelbyville passed away at 10:36 a.m. Tuesday (September 23, 2008) in the Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the family.
She was born July 15, 1936 in Shelbyville the daughter of Vernon Earl and Helen Berniece Hasselbach Dayhuff. She married John Raymond Denton Stevens December 3, 1955 in Shelbyville and he preceded her in death January 4, 2008.
She was a life member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary 4829 of Shelbyville and charter member of the Eagles Fraternal Order 4395 of Shelbyville. She was formerly a nurse’s aide at Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville Restorium and Manor for 23 years. She was a waitress at Reider’s Cafe and formerly owned and operated the Red Top Cab in Shelbyville.
Surviving are daughters, Charie Brown (Gerald) of Cowden and Tina Johnson (special friend, Ron Handy) of Shelbyville; son, John Stevens (special friend, Denise Clutter) of Shelbyville; sisters, Jennie Binnion (Maurice) of Shelbyville, Phyllis Hapner (Jim) of Mode, Cathy Canada Kneller (Barry) of Shelbyville; half sisters, Velma Anzures of Madison, IN, and Lena Mattingly of Chicago; uncle, Walter Dayhuff (Eva) of St. Louis; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins and special friends, Jackie Connley and Veronica Konwinski.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and half sisters, Beulah Turner and Annabelle Moore.
