Donald E. Settles 78 of Shelbyville passed away at 9:50 PM Saturday July 4, 2009 in Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born June 26, 1931 in Pleasant Hill the son of Andrew Jack and Mable Hutchins Settles. He married Carolyn V. Martin, August 14, 1976 in Pittsfield.
He was formerly employed at Caterpillar in Joliet, a barge line on the Mississippi River, Wilco in Paris, Kerr-McGee in Sullivan and as a contractor for Lake Shelbyville. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, bingo and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn, sons, Gary Settles of Pleasant Hill, Dave Rockwood of Missouri and Albert Rockwood of Sullivan; daughters, Ginny Slifer of Mattoon and Marilda Lamon of Tyler, TX; brother, Jack Settles of Pleasant Hill; sister, Barb Cress of Pleasant Hill; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 great-grandson, brothers, Burt, Lewis and Joe and sisters, Ruby, Betty and Lucille.
