Don R. Reid 82 of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 2:00 PM Sunday Feb. 22, 2009 in his home.
Don was born Jan. 15, 1927 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Ollie and Dorothy Fleming Reid.
He married Helen Mathias May 29, 1949 in Shelbyville.
Don served in the United States Army during WWII and was a lifetime member of Shelbyville V.F.W. Post # 4829 and a member of the National Rifle Association.
Don was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville on South Broadway.
He retired from the State of Illinois Department of Transportation, District 5, Division of Highways, Shelby County after 21 years of employment . Formerly, he worked for Wareham’s Dairy in Taylorville, Marine Service Station as manager and Star Service Station both in Shelbyville.
He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Surviving are his wife Helen; sons Bradley Wayne Reid and wife Debbie of Wilmington, NC and Robert Michael Reid and partner Brandon Cook of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Reid of Wilmington, NC; brothers Rick Reid and wife Ruby of Shelbyville and Thomas Reid of Decatur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ollie and Dorothy, step-mother Grace Reid, sister Betty and brother Robert Dale.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday Feb. 27, 2009 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Rev. Kevin Ray will officiate.Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of the service on Friday.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.
Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville or to the Shelbyville Community Dialysis Center.
