Charles R. Peifer, 76, of Cowden passed away at 3:25 p.m. Monday (December 28, 2009) at his residence.

He was born November 14, 1933 in Cowden to William Dale and Bunea E. (Lape) Peifer.

Charles graduated from Cowden High School in 1951 and from Eastern Illinois University in 1957. He taught 5th and 6th grade in the Cowden, Bethany and Mendota, Illinois school districts for 33 years. After retiring from teaching, he worked for several years as the village treasurer in Cowden.He is survived by his wife, Lola (Yarnell) Peifer; sons, Robert (Amy) Peifer of Lebanon andRandy Peifer of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, Brooke (Josh) Wilson of Charleston, Carolyn (Tyler) Price of Newburgh, IN, Kevin Peifer, Rachel and Alysia Baines of Lebanon; great grandsons, Kohlby and Kollin Wilson.

Other survivors include brothers, Bill (Elizabeth) Peifer of St. Peters, MO, Don (Linda) Thompson of Cowden, Gene (Karen) Thompson of Herrick, Jim Thompson of Beecher City, Harvey (Ruth Ann) Thompson of Decatur, Johnny (Janet) Thompson of Cowden, Dean (Jan) Thompson of Herrick and Ed (Becky) Thompson of Cowden; sisters, Jane Seely of Cowden, Rosemary (Bob) Bartels of Illiopolis and Helen (Dale) Prater of Decatur; brother-in-law, Merrill Hadley of Herrick; sister-in-law, Pat Thompson of Cowden and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joe Thompson and sister, Shirley Hadley.

Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church in Cowden on Saturday, January 2, ````2010 at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Cowden. Arrangements are by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden.

He will live on in our hearts and to live in hearts we leave behind is not to die-
