Shirley Ann Meek, 63 of Cowden, IL, was born July 4, 1945 near Cowden, IL and born into eternal life Mar. 13, 2009.
Shirley was the daughter of Ralph and Marie Beck Bates.
She married William G. Meek June 26, 1965 in Cowden, IL.
Shirley was employed by the Cowden –Herrick Community Unit School District for 35 years, and retired Mar 31, 2008.She worked as a bus driver for several years and then became building custodian and crossing guard at Cowden Grade School.For a time she was a Boy Scout Leader.
Above all she loved her husband, her boys and their wives, her grandchildren and all her brothers and sisters.She enjoyed her flower garden and her craft work.She looked forward to trips to the river gambling boats, where she especially liked playing the slot machines.
Surviving are her husband Bill; sons Jeff Meek and wife Melanie and Bill Meek Jr. and wife Melissa both of Herrick; grandchildren: Shawn Meek and wife Rachel, Nicholas Meek, Kerry Meek, Kevin Meek, Cooper Meek, Claire Meek, Chase Meek, Dylan Meek and Chloe Meek; five great grandsons; brother Shorty Bates and wife Larenda of Yorkville, IL; sister Betty Miller and husband Don of Effingham, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Marie Bates; step-father Forrest (Frosty) Banning, son Jeremy Meek, granddaughter Shoshanna, brothers Gene Bates and Junior Bates; sisters Rosemary Tull and Nancy Ketten.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday Mar. 16, 2009 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden.Pastor Jay Huddleston will officiate.Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home.
