Robert E. McQueen, 76, of Windsor passed away at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday (September 1, 2009) at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Windsor Christian Church with Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church with Masonic rites at 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Sand Creek Cemetery near Windsor with military rites. Memorials may be made to the Friends of Sand Creek or the Windsor Christian Church Operation Christmas Child. Arrangements are by Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor.
He was born January 14, 1933 in Shelby County the son of Alva and Velma (Helton) McQueen. He married Trenna Ruth Matheny April 3, 1955 in Shelbyville and she preceded him in death January 25, 1992.
He served as the Windsor Chief of Police for 33 years. He was a member of the Windsor Christian Church, serving as a deacon and received the Honored Servant Award. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, was a member of the Windsor American Legion Post # 725, Shelbyville VFW Post # 4829, Windsor Masonic Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was active in the restoration of Sand Creek Church of Christ and mowing and tending the flowers there. Bob loved to fish, boat, mow, tend flowers, his church and his family.
Surviving are his children, Alva McQueen, Darlene Splittorff (Jim), Randy McQueen (Kim), Penny Riley and Cindy McQueen all of Windsor; grandchildren, Jacey and Lacey Splittorff, Cody Riley, Brittany and Bailey McQueen; great-grandchildren, Wesley Anderson and Anthony McCall; brother, Danny Joe McQueen of Delavan; sister, Pat Winzler (Vern) of Rockford; brother-in-law, Don Matheny (Sue) of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sons, Dennis and Earl Wayne, brother Jerry and sisters, Helen, Sue and Marge.
