Charles Arthur Lines, 84, of Shelbyville went to join our heavenly Father on Christmas Eve-Thursday, December 24th around 3:15 p.m.in the Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Shelbyville Assembly of God Church, which is on the corner of Rt. 16 and Oak Street with Pastor Don Jeffries officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Tower Hill Cemetery with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Shelbyville Assembly of God. Arrangements are by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville.

Charles Arthur Lines was born to William Riley and Pearl Mae (Lawson) Lines on October 13, 1925 in Clarksburg. He married Goldie Margaret Sanders on October 9, 1942 in St. Louis and she preceded him in death on October 8, 2008. From this marriage they were blessed with five children: Charlene (Don) Eddington of Mt. Zion; Darlene (Bill) Chesterman of Tower Hill; Brenda Mae (Mike) Cunningham of Oakley; Charles W. (Sue) Lines of Decatur and Patrick Joseph (Judy) Lines of Shelbyville. These children blessed them with twelve grandchildren: Sheri (deceased) (Dennis) Blackshire of Piqua, OH; Donna (Todd) Hardy of Decatur, John (Tami) Eddington of Mt. Zion; William Leroy Chesterman, Jr. (deceased); Cindy (Rick) Jones of Beecher City; Debby (Ed) Jordan and Chuck (Patsy) Chesterman both of Tower Hill; Stanley (Angie, deceased) White of Decatur; Ronnie (Sara) Nailer of Maroa; Corey (Liz) Lines of Bloomington; Carrie Sue (Jon) Simmons of Bethany and PJ (Amanda) Lines of Pensacola, FL.Mr. Lines is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robert (Mary) Sanders of Bradenton, FL, sister-in-law, Beulah Sanders of Holliday and many nieces and nephews. He always looked forward to the Lines reunion so he could visit with his siblings’ children.

He was reunited in Heaven with his wife Margaret of 65 years and 364 days, along with his mother, father, two grandchildren, William Leroy and Sheri, one granddaughter-in-law, Angie White, son-in-law, Ron Nailer, one brother, George and three sisters, Maudie, Jessie and Mae who preceded him in death.

Mr. Lines served in the United States Marines during World War II on the islands of Guam and Iwo Gima along side his brother, George. He retired from Burks Pump as a machinist in Decatur after suffering a major heart attack in 1976. He had also worked at Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville, Blaw Knox in Mattoon and Leader Iron Works in Decatur along with other places using his special skills of his trade.

Even though he was disabled, he was always by his wife’s side as she worked as a gate attendant at several of the State Parks of Lake Shelbyville. They enjoyed many winters in McAllen and Sharryland Villa in Mission, TX before their health began to fail. He became a follower of Christ in 1973. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Shelbyville. He was a devoted husband, wonderful dad and a true friend! He remained in good spirits until his death. He got the Christmas gift he was praying for-he joined mom in Heaven on Christmas Eve!

The family would like to thank the staff at Shelby Rehab for your excellent care and concern for us during Dad’s final hours! Also thank you to Dr. O, Dr. Prabu, the employees of Ryan’s Steak House in Effingham wheredad loved to spend his afternoons even though he had lost his appetite many months ago, Mike Nolan, assistant manager of Ryan’s, whom dad “adopted” as another son his housekeeper, Lori, special friend, Priscilla and Chuck and Linda Wunderling of Shelbyville.

Dad will definitely be missed!
