Orvel J. (Pete) Lading, 79, of Windsor beloved father and grandfather was taken home by the angels at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday (September 3, 2008) in the Heartland Christian Village, Neoga.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg with Pastor Steven Becker officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Ash Grove Cemetery near Windsor with military rites. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg. Arrangements are by Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor.
He was born December 7, 1928 near Strasburg the son of Orvel F. and Mabel Ruff Lading. He married Ruth Marie Storm, December 24, 1950 in Mattoon and she preceded him in death August 29, 1986.
He was a retired farmer and retired from GE in Mattoon after working more the 30 years.
He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He formerly coached Little League baseball and was an avid Cub fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking and deeply loved his grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Dana Fergesen (Rick) of Arlington, TX, Greg Lading (friend, Doris Holby) of Mt. Morris, Mike Lading (Julie) of Humbolt and Ann Ferguson (Michael) of Darien; grandchildren, Megan Stewart (Scott), Cory Fergesen, Kelsey Swing (Chris), Brooke Lading, Tim Lading, Haylie Lading, Karlie Lading, Clayton Ferguson and Meredith Ferguson; brothers and sisters, Verena Atteberry of Effingham, Dwight Lading of Strasburg, Gene Lading of Pana, Beverly Jones of California, Ron Lading of Effingham and Paul Lading of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
