Robert E.”Bob” Jeffers 77 of Lakewood, IL, went to be with his Lord at 1:30 AM Monday Oct. 27, 2008 in his home with his family at his side.
He was born July 10, 1931 at Tower Hill the son of Dallas E. and Delores L. (Drake) Jeffers.
Bob married Vera Lu Roney Aug. 18, 1950 in Findlay, IL.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He owned and operated Jeffers Excavating with his son Tony for 50 years.During that time they owned and operated Jeffers Towing for 9 years. Bob was the Rose Township Road Commissioner from 1985 to 1992.He was a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville and Eastern Star.Bob loved being outdoors and spending time with family and friends as well as his pet dogs, Eve and Dolly.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Vera Lu; daughters Linda McWaters and fiancé Dan Allen of Lakewood, IL, Roberta Wiley and husband Bob of Marion, IL, Virginia Bunton and husband Paul of Mt. Zion, IL; son Tony Jeffers and special friend Lisa of Lakewood, IL; grandchildren: Sheri, Brandon, Kurt, Kari, Joey, Daniel and Robbie; twelve great grandchildren; brother Robert Gaugh and wife Nancy of Mode, IL; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday Oct. 30, 2008 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Rev. Ron Newman will officiate.Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday. Bob’s wishes were that attire be casual. Masonic rites will be at 7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.Memorials can be made to the Family.
