Melvin D. Heiden, 91, of Shumway passed away Monday (January 12, 2009) at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Shumway with Pastor Tom Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Shumway. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Fund or the donor’s choice. Arrangements are by Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson.
He was born April 7, 1917 in rural Shumway the son of Charles and Ida (Laue) Heiden. He married Virginia Lee McDaniel, April 19, 1940 in Warrenton, MO and she preceded him in death, Novemeber 20, 2006.
He was a retired farmer, member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Shumway and Elks lodge # 1016 of Effingham.
Surviving are sons, Dan Heiden (special friend, Karen) of Effingham and Doug Heiden (Sandy) of Shumway; daughter, Dixie Brown (Jim) of Sierra Vista, AZ; grandchildren, Michelle Gillespie, Jeff Brown, Tara Snow (Jeff), Amber Wilhour (Blaine) and Cole Heiden; great-grandchildren, Kirstin Brown, Delaney Gillespie and Nolan Wilhour.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Virginia, brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Dottie Heiden and grandson, Jim Brown.
