Georganna Yantis Halbrook, 85, of Tower Hill passed away at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday (October 21, 2009) in the Decatur Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Pastor Steve Livengood officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday and one hour before service time Monday. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was the youngest of seven children born to George and Laura Ann (Weakly) Yantis and her birthday was February 15, 1924. Georganna graduated from Westervelt Community High School in Westervelt in 1941.
She married LeRoy Franklin Halbrook in Troy, Missouri on July 19, 1941 and he was killed in the Battle of the Bulge during WW II (1945). Georganna served with the US Navy as a Wave during WW II, stationed in the Bronx, New York and Arlington, Virginia. She attended Sparks Business College, Shelbyville and was employed at Sanks Insurance Agency in Decatur. She married Louis Ambrose Halbrook on March 12, 1949 in Biloxi, Mississippi. The rest of her life she was a domestic engineer and a farmer’s wife which meant she could do almost anything on their farm. Louis preceded her in death, January 12, 1996. She was a member of the Tower Hill Methodist Church, an avid gardener and loved to embroider and sew.
She is survived by her daughter, Georgia Lou Pearson (Steve) of Mt. Morris; grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Pearson, Anna Kathrene Blumeyer (Heath), Josiah John Pearson (Bethany Liston) and Ariel Amber Pearson; two great-grandchildren, Johnathan James and Lucas Nathanial Blumeyer; sister Jeanette Brown; brother, Gayle Yantis; sister-in-law, Star Halbrook,numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Helen Bayless.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one sister, three brothers and an infant daughter, Barbara Arlene Halbrook. She will be forever missed by her family.
