Shirley Elizabeth Grader 86, of Grapevine, TX, formerly of Beecher City, IL, passed away Mar. 11, 2009 in Baylor Hospital in Grapevine after an eight year struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Shirley was born Sept. 12, 1922 in Oelwein, IA the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Vanderlin.
Shirley and her husband George met while they were students at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL following WWII and were married Sept. 5, 1948 in Evanston following graduation.They began their married life in Evanston and later moved to Homewood, IL.While raising their children she moved her family to San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Amarillo, TX, Dallas, TX and Houston, TX following her husband’s employment with the Santa Fe Railroad.After her children were raised, she enjoyed working outside the home in administration at the University of Texas in Dallas.She was a member of the League of Women’s Voters in Amarillo.
The loss of Shirley leaves an intense sadness for her husband, children and all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, George; daughters: Carol Donnally and husband Don of Dallas, and Barbara Powers and husband Werner of Dallas, TX; son Richard Grader and wife Tempest “Tip” of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Josephine Donnally, Christina Donnally, Chet Donnally, Caroline Donnally, Harrison Powers, Chris Powers, Jordan Grader, Jessica Grader andJentry Grader; great granddaughter Avery Grader.
She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Elizabeth Vanderlin and step-mother Nora Vanderlin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday Mar. 21, 2009 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City.Pastor Robert Hoover will officiate.Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until time of the service on Saturday in the funeral home.Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Beecher City.On line condolences may be directed to the family at www.lockartgreenfunerahome.com
