Eliza M. Fry 98 of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 10:45 PM Monday Dec. 28, 2009 in her home.
She was born Jan. 12, 1911in Shelby County, IL the daughter of John and Gertrude Miller Cooper.
She married Ellis Fry on June 12, 1934 and he passed away May 10, 1995.
Eliza attended Shelbyville area schools and graduated in 1928 from Shelbyville High School.She attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL and obtained a teaching certificate. She loved teaching andtaught elementary school in Shelbyville and the surrounding area (including Vine Street School) for many years.In 1961 she retired from teaching.Upon retirement, she and husband Ellis purchased and operated the Shelby Motel in Shelbyville.Eventually, they partnered with their son Kenneth in the business.After retirement from the motel, Eliza and Ellis enjoyed many winters in Ft. Myers, FL.Eliza was a talented bridge enthusiast and played in several local bridge groups.She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
Surviving are sons Robert Fry of Shelbyville and Kenneth Fry and wife Freddie of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Brian Fry and wife Kimberly of Marietta, GA and Jane Fry of Monterrey, CA; great grandchildren: Chelsea, Hannah and Ellison.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ellis, infant son Richard, her parents, brother Ray Cooper and sister Thelma Cooper.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday Dec. 31, 2009 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.The Rev. Kevin Ray will officiate.Visitation will be one hour before the service.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.Memorials can be made to Lincolnland Hospice.On line condolences may be directed to the family at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com
