Jean Evelyn Elam, 73, of Effingham died at 11:51 a.m. Friday (September 12, 2008) at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Pastor Tom Suey officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose, CA. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was born July 28, 1935 in Moccasin the daughter of Everett and Gertrude Doty Cox. She married Vernon Dale Elam May 8, 1953 in Iowa City, IA and he preceded her in death May 9, 1982.
She was formerly employed as a waitress, at J.C. Penny and Continental Bondware, Shelbyville.
Surviving are daughters, Cheryl Hosin of Effingham, Crystal Rumsey of Stewardson and Cynthia Elam of Waterloo, IA; son, Clifford Elam of Stewardson; sisters, Edith Lewis of Shelbyville, Ada Long of Dayton, OH, Ellen Sutter of Effingham and Dolly Willford of Decatur; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Owen, Loren and Hubert and sisters, Cleta, Ruth and Vivian.
