David Blair DeTar, 80, of Shelbyville, Texas, passed away Monday November 2, 2009.
Services will be 6:15 p.m. Wednesday November 4, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Center, TX. with Bro. Aubie McSwain officiating.Visitation will be Wednesday November 4, 2009 from 5:30 p.m. until service time at the First Christian Church under the direction Mangum Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday November 7, 2009 at Lorton Cemetery in Cowden, IL.Viewing in Illinois will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Lorton Cemetery under the direction of Lockart – Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
Mr. DeTar was born July 16, 1929 in Bristol, OK the second child of Harold and Ruth Crawford DeTar.David and his wife, Wanda (Turner) DeTar enjoyed their combined families and many years of travel.David’s early years were spent in Winslow and Griffin, Indiana.He graduated from Griffin High School in Griffin, IN in 1949.
He worked for 39 years on the railroad for Illinois Central, Amtrak and Southern Pacific.He retired from Southern Pacific.He was an active member of the Boy Scouts all his life.He was a member of the First Christian Church of Center, Texas where he served as a deacon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth Crawford DeTar and brother, George DeTar.
Their surviving family and extended family includes seven sons and four daughters: David Allen DeTar and wife, Billie of Dallas, TX; James DeTar and wife, Sandy of Indianapolis, IN, Yvonne DeTar of Indianapolis, IN, Ronald DeTar and wife Linda of Indianapolis, IN, Raymond DeTar of Seattle, WA, David Lynn DeTar and wife, Loryie of Riverton, IL, Debra Kay Nesmith and husband Bill of Alpharetta, Georgia, Londa Hohimer of Center, TX, Janet Busch of Shelbyville, TX, J. C. Loveall of Mt. Pulaski, IL and Dennis Loveall of Lincoln, IL; two sisters: Kay Clevenger and husband JR of Owensville, IN and Sue Mueller and husband Robert of Nashville, IL.; thirty-five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
