George B. Carter, 75, of Findlay passed away at 3:25 a.m. Thursday (January 15, 2009) at the Shelbyville Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Findlay. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Findlay Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Findlay Ambulance.
George was born September 27, 1933 in Decatur, the son of Samy Bert and Geraldine Irene Coleman Carter. He moved to Findlay when he was a child and has lived there the rest of his life. He graduated from Findlay High School. George married Clara Mae Herron, December 23, 1957 in Findlay.
George served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, peace keeping forces in Germany. He retired from Borg Warner-York Division, Decatur after 30 years of service. He was one of the first EMT’s on the Findlay Ambulance Service. He served on the Findlay Fire Department for several years. He also served approximately 20 years as a Village Trustee including one term as Mayor of Findlay. He was a Tax Assessor for many years in Okaw-Todds Point Townships. He was a member of the Clarence Bixlaer American Legion Post # 409 in Findlay. After his retiring from Borg Warner he had an insurance agency for several years and for many years he farmed.
George loved collecting and showing antique farm equipment, especially Oliver Tractors. He belonged to several antique tractor clubs and attended shows from California to New York.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Mae; son, Steven Carter (Jean) of Wildwood, MO; two granddaughters, Taylor Carter and Erin Carter both of Wildwood, MO; sister-in-law, Mary Smith (Lloyd) of Mt. Zion; brother-in-law, Wayne Herron (Judy) of New Paltz, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, half –brother, Eugene Carter and nephew, Jack Carter.
