Bonita E. Buchanan 94 of Cowden, IL, passed away at 2:54 AM Monday May 3, 2010 in St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Bonita was born June 2, 1915 at Witt, IL the daughter of Frank J. and Zilpha Lucy Pettyjohn Cihak.
She married Wilmer Reid (Buck) Buchanan on June 20, 1937 in Salem, IL and he passed away Oct. 15, 1999.
Bonita was a homemaker for her family and was a trained beautician who, in her younger years, had a beauty shop in her home.She was a member of the First Christian Church of Cowden.She loved her garden and flowers.
Surviving are her children: Donna Banning of Effingham, IL, Gary Buchanan and wife Hilda of Cowden and Trent Buchanan and wife Shirley of Cowden; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; eight step-great great grandchildren; sister Irene Bolds of Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law Paul Sphar of Tucson, AZ; sisters-in-law Betty Buchanan of Herrick, IL and Lou Buchanan of Cowden.
She was preceded in death by her husband Buck, her parents, one step-grandson, brother Roy Cihak, sister Doris Sphar and two sons-in-law.
A visitation for friends and family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday May 6, 2010 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden.A private graveside service will be held in Myers Cemetery, Herrick, IL at a later date. Pastor Tom Boyd will officiate.
