Ralph M. Bates, Jr., 61, of Shelbyville died at 7:46 p.m. Wednesday in the Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden.
He was born August 22, 1947 in Cowden the son of Ralph M. and Marie Beck Bates, Sr.
He served in the US Navy and formerly operated a welding shop in Sullivan.
Surviving are brother, Leroy (Shorty) Bates of Yorkville, sisters, Betty Miller of Effingham and Shirley Meek of Cowden; daughter, Cheyenne Robertson of Shelbyville and granddaughter, Trinity Lynn Brown of Shelbyville
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Forrest Banning, brother, Gene Bates and sisters, Rosemary Tull and Nancy Ketten.
