Hilda L. Adams 76 of Beecher City, IL passed away at 12:01 AM Tuesday June 23, 2009 in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Hilda was born Feb. 15, 1933 near Cowden, IL, in Shelby County the daughter of Roy and Ethel Hedrick Lorton.
She married Loyd Durbin Jr.in August of 1949 in Decatur, IL and he passed away Dec.6, 1973.
Hilda was first a homemaker and farm wife while she and Loyd raised their children.She was a retired cook and “Mom” for the sailors on various tug boats as they plied most of the major waterways of the United States which included the Mississippi River and the Inter-Costal Waterway of the eastern seaboard.Formerly, she managed the Rose Bud Restaurant at Pana, IL, and worked at Fedders Corporation in Effingham, IL and Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Decatur, IL.She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Decatur, IL, the Kaskaskia Church near Wright’s Corner and the Golden Prairie Travel Club of Prairie National Bank of Stewardson.She was a natural born traveler and had visited all fifty states during her journeys.Hilda was very proud when she obtained her G.E.D. in her later years.
Her greatest love was her love for family and her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are her children: Linda Radloff and husband Linn of Beecher City, Roy Samuel Durbin and wife Kandra of Beecher City and Bill Durbin and wife Connie of Altamont; grandchildren: Jennifer Doedtman and husband Chris, Allen Radloff and wife Sheryl, Dr. Chris Radloff and wife Kelsey, Dominique Durbin and wife Beth, Robert Durbin and friend Lindsey, Samatha Stefanski and husband Ray, Alex Hall and Abby Hall; great- grandchildren: Trishia Buzzard, Jacob Doedtman, Beau Doedtman, Wesley Radloff, A.J. Radloff, Lane Radloff, Kade Radloff, Devon Durbin, Maddie Durbin, Whitney Sue Stefanski and Kaycie Stefanski; sisters Marlene O`Donnell of Decatur, IL, and Nell Petty and husband Dennis of Beecher City; brothers: John Lorton and wife Jeanie of Minter , OH and Joe Lorton and wife Sue of Stoutsville, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son James Dugal Durbin, sister Ellen (Babe) Scammahorn, brother-in-law Eddie Scammahorn and a sibling in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday June 26, 2009 in Kaskaskia Church near Wright’s Corner.Rev. Kent (Pee Wee) Denton will officiate.Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Thursday in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City.Burial will be in Lorton Cemetery near Cowden.
