Services will be held at her home church, East Side Church of the Nazarene, 2129 S 9th St, Mattoon, IL on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 1 p.m. with visitation starting at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon, IL. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.
Martha attended Asbury College (now University), Wilmore, KY and Olivet Nazarene College (now University), Bourbonnais, IL. She was a full-time pastor's wife serving alongside of Walter at pastorates in Iowa and Illinois. She retired from the federal government as an executive secretary where she worked until age 72 after raising her five children.
Martha was a loving mother to sons: David (Janice), Ron (deceased) (Ann), Steve (Debbie), Sheridan (Lori); daughter, Eneatha "Ernie" (Jim) Secrest; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous other loved ones. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Ronald L. Attig; sisters: Jane Nix, Susie Van Hook and Rebecca Hayes.
Martha loved to study her Bible, read, knit, crafts of all kinds, sewing and playing games (competitive). Martha's utmost desire is that each person will come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and make heaven their home. Her ultimate reward has been given; "His lord said unto him, well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matthew 25:23
We celebrate a life lived with purpose, accomplishment and love.
