Loretta Mae Quast

Loretta Mae (Bales) Quast, 89, formerly of Stewardson, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Effingham with Reverend David McConnell officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson. Burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery in Stewardson. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Effingham or the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.

Loretta was born September 7, 1927, in rural Shelby County, the daughter of William and Ruby (Crowder) Bales. She married Charles Quast on October 19, 1946. Charles preceded her in death on October 13, 1995.

For many years she worked at the Stew-Stras School helping in the kitchen and was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Effingham.

Surviving are her four children: Gerald (Arlene) Quast of Charleston, Sharon (Mark) Knaus of Effingham, Dennis (Lisa) Quast of Crossville, TN, and Julie (David) Slifer of Effingham; ten grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; sister Bonnie Koester and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Charles.
