James "Jim" Edward Graven, 71, of Shelbyville, passed away at 1:12 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at home, with his family by his side.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Reverend Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Lockart-Green Funeral, Shelbyville. Burial will take place in Jordan Cemetery, near Shelbyville, with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the VFW Post #4829 in Shelbyville or the group homes at Shelby County Community Services.
Jim was born July 24, 1945, in Shelby County, the son of Ray Charles and Ethel Oka (Jennings) Graven. He married Judith Kay Manship on December 12, 1965 in Shelbyville, she passed away October 17, 2002.
Jim graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1963 and then served in the U.S. Army. He was a tire builder at Firestone Tire and Rubber in Decatur for 30 years. He then served as the Animal Control Coordinator, also transportation and maintenance at Shelby County Community Services. He was a member of the VFW Post #4829 in Shelbyville. Jim loved to fish and hunt and was a die hard Cardinal fan.
He is survived by his son, Heath Graven and wife Martha of Shelbyville; daughters: Tiffanie Graven of Mattoon and Stephanie Shadwell and husband Todd of Shelbyville; six grandchildren: Erica McDonald and husband Evan of Shelbyville, Spencer Shadwell of Shelbyville, Gabrielle Fandrich and husband George "Gus" of Assumption, Austin Baker of Tower Hill, Beau Graven and Nicole Graven both of Shelbyville; two great-grandchildren: Cameron Baker of Tower Hill and Anna McDonald of Shelbyville; sisters Elizabeth Mueller of Joliet and Louise Heathcock of Shelbyville; brother David E. Graven of Clarksville, TN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, sister Eileen Woods and brothers Charles, Robert G. and Donald Graven.
